We’re hiring: Contributing Writers

October 26, 2023

As a contributing writer to the Leading Like a Lady Blog, you will produce engaging and informative articles related to one or more of the blog’s core pillars: Black/African Women Professionals, Digital Nomad Lifestyle, Gender Inequality & the Pay Gap, or Starting a Business/Finding a Job. Articles will be requested weekly or bi-weekly and exposed to roughly 450 million monthly visitors to the blog website. Contributed articles will be reviewed for relevance (e.g. how relevant is this to current events and the target audience), readability (e.g. how accessible are the language and concepts discussed), and actionability (e.g. what next steps can readers take based on information presented).

This is a virtual job role and candidates will be hired as independent contractors part-time. While Leading Like a Lady is based in the United States, we welcome international candidates to apply (especially those based in Africa, the Caribbean, or South America).

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • writing a minimum of 500 words either on a weekly or bi-weekly basis, based on one of the core pillars of the publication;

  • proofreading articles for grammatical and spelling corrections prior to submitting them for publication;

  • ensuring articles meet Associated Press (AP) standards for citation and formatting;

  • performing fact-checking and interviews (when necessary) to add quality and substance to the topics addressed in the article.

The ideal candidate possesses the following traits:

  • a Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Africana Studies, Media Studies, Economics or other related subjects;

  • previously published work with a reputable publication (not required, but those with a professional portfolio will be given prioritized consideration);

  • fluency in American English (English does not have to be your native language);

  • familiarity with AP Style and best practices for researching and vetting sources;

  • a strong understanding of search engine optimization;

  • (optional but ideal) expertise in HubSpot or similar content management systems.

Compensation is project-based and competitive depending on previous work produced by the candidate that aligns with the requirements outlined in the role description.
