Who is Seun Shokunbi?

Passionate about storytelling for maximum social impact. Track record includes producing trending articles and the first-ever report on venture capital in northern Nigeria for Al Jazeera network. Experience includes producing multimedia content related to people of color and women of the African diaspora.

I’m Brooklyn-raised; Nigerian-bred. Granddaughter of a Nigerian diplomat. And an overcomer of childhood abuse, depression, suicide, and PTSD.

After overcoming the physical and mental health issues that almost made me flunk out of college, my goal is to develop an intimate community with women of the African diaspora who want to use the difficult circumstances of life as fuel to change the world.

I believe our experiences can spark a generational revolution.

I created Leading Like a Lady in 2020, inspired by the way women in positions of power were handling the COVID-19 crisis. It was a display of rational, reasonable, and responsible leadership that I wanted to capture. My goal is to share these teachable moments on my blog and media platforms.

I started doing this work through consulting and leadership development, supporting rising talent, and sharing investment opportunities in Africa. I’ve also been a past contributor to Face2Face Africa & Fodor’s Travel Guide, and a speaker for TEDx, Columbia Business School, Boston College, and Rutgers University.

I was selected as a 2019 Women of Inspiration honoree by the Corporate Counsel Women of Color for my work addressing the gender pay and investment capital gap experienced by Black/African women.

I’ve traveled to over 20 countries in Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Americas, and lived in Nairobi and London. I earned my bachelor’s degree in English and Communications from Fordham University in New York City. My master’s degree is in International Management (graduating magna cum laude) from SOAS, University of London, focusing on human capital development in the Middle East and North Africa.
